Chapter Six

To Julian, heading back to Mathe’s cabin began as a slow, painful process. He’d done his best to hide his cringes, but Mathe must have seen. About halfway there, the vampire eased him into his arms and carried him.

Julian felt his face heat as he wrapped his arms around Mathe’s neck. He pressed his forehead against the man’s shoulder, inhaling his scent. Even with the pain radiating through his thigh, his prick still managed to rouse when he took in the male’s heady aroma, filling to half-mast.

It was wonderfully distracting.

“Gods, Julian,” Mathe rumbled. A low moan erupted from him. “Between your arousal and your blood, you smell so fucking fantastic.”

Humming, Julian rubbed his cheek against Mathe’s collarbone, then up his neck. “So do you,” he whispered. “I want your scent all over me.”

Groaning, the sound ragged, Mathe muttered, “You’re injured, Julian.” As he spoke, he took the steps up his porch, then eased Julian to his... foot. He kept one arm around Julian’s waist, helping him balance, as he stared down at him. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

Julian peered up at Mathe, sweeping his gaze over the vampire’s face. He took in the tension that formed harsh lines bracketing his mouth and the tightness of his jaw. Tracing his fingertips along his jaw bone, he cocked his head.

“You won’t hurt me,” Julian whispered, certainty thrumming through him. “Others have hurt me, but I know you won’t.” He felt his face heat, but knew he had to explain further. “My brother told me that when I had sex with my mate, it’d feel different, better, than any other. I want to know what it will feel like to have you slide your dick into my channel.”

Mathe’s eyes narrowed, their color bleeding to a deep red. He tipped his chin down, shielding them as he peered around the area. Finally, he reached for his door’s knob and opened it, guiding Julian into the home.

After closing the door, Mathe rumbled, “First, I have a warning. Something I should have reminded you of before heading out our door the first time.” He kept his arm around Julian’s waist, guiding him deeper into the house as he spoke. “There are many humans here, and my home—” He paused, then amended, “Our home is close enough to the stables that humans could be near. We must mind our tongues when not behind closed doors.”

Julian grimaced even as he nodded. “I’m sorry,” he immediately whispered. “Gypsum told me that. I forgot.”

Mathe didn’t appear upset. Instead, he pecked a kiss to his lips. “It’s fine,” he assured. Opening a door, he hesitated in the doorway. “From your words, may I assume you wish to share a bed with me?”

Looking through the doorway, Julian spotted a large bed, the covers neatly made. He noted a dresser, nightstands, and a door to what was most likely the closet. The room was decorated in dark creams and browns.

Personally, Julian thought it needed some color.

“I’ve never slept alone,” Julian admitted, shifting his focus back to Mathe.
